In March 2025, astronomers discovered an Earth-like exoplanet named Gliese 581g-II, located 20 light-years away. It lies within the habitable zone of its star, where liquid water could exist. Scientists detected signs of a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere and potential water vapor through spectral analysis. Although life hasn't been confirmed, the planet’s Earth-like temperature and atmospheric composition make it a prime target for future exploration.
The James Webb Space Telescope contributed significantly to this discovery. It has reignited public interest in space science and deepened our understanding of potentially habitable worlds beyond our solar system.
