The Gateway of India, completed in 1924, commemorates the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay (Mumbai) in 1911. Built in Indo-Saracenic style, it served as a ceremonial entry point for British governors and viceroys. Ironically, it also marked the symbolic end of British rule when the last British troops exited through it in 1948.
Overlooking the Arabian Sea, the Gateway has become a prominent Mumbai landmark and a reminder of colonial history, independence, and the blending of cultural architecture.
