The Sanchi Stupa in Madhya Pradesh is one of India’s oldest and most important Buddhist monuments. Commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE, it marks the spread of Buddhism under his rule. The hemispherical dome contains relics of the Buddha. Four intricately carved gateways (toranas) depict scenes from Buddha’s life and Jataka tales.
The Stupa’s architectural style influenced Buddhist structures across Asia. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sanchi symbolizes peace, Dharma, and India’s ancient spiritual heritage, attracting pilgrims and scholars alike.
