The common cold usually causes sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, coughing, mild body aches, and fatigue. In children, it can sometimes cause a low-grade fever and irritability. Cold symptoms appear gradually and often last 7–10 days. Unlike the flu, a cold rarely causes high fever or severe exhaustion.
Rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medications like paracetamol or antihistamines can ease symptoms. If symptoms worsen or last beyond 10 days, a secondary infection might be present. It’s highly contagious, especially in crowded areas, so hygiene practices like handwashing are essential to prevent its spread.
