Apply direct pressure on the wound using a clean cloth or bandage to stop the bleeding. Raise the injured part above heart level if possible. Once the bleeding slows, wrap the wound with a sterile bandage. If blood soaks through, don’t remove the first layer—add another on top. Keep pressure constant.
For severe bleeding or if blood is spurting, call emergency services immediately. Avoid using tourniquets unless trained. Do not remove objects embedded in the wound—stabilize them instead. Always wear gloves or use a barrier if available to reduce infection risk.
