If the person is choking and can’t cough, speak, or breathe, act immediately. Stand behind them and wrap your arms around their waist. Perform the Heimlich maneuver: make a fist, place it just above their navel, grasp it with your other hand, and give quick, upward thrusts. Repeat until the object is expelled.
If they become unconscious, gently lay them down and begin CPR, checking for the object in their mouth before giving breaths. Always call for emergency help. For children or pregnant individuals, use modified techniques. Choking is life-threatening, and quick action can save lives.
