The brain is the control center of the body, processing information from sensory organs and sending responses. It consists of billions of neurons that transmit electrical signals. Different regions control different functions: the cerebrum handles thinking, memory, and voluntary actions; the cerebellum manages balance and coordination; and the brainstem regulates automatic functions like breathing and heart rate.
Information travels via the spinal cord and nerves. The brain is protected by the skull and cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid. Sleep, mental activity, and a healthy diet help maintain brain health and cognitive function throughout life.
